Wilma, just misses the leaders, Kevin, Karen, and Dave, so there
is no picture of their finish. She goes catch Doug coming in,
not too far behind. Doug had a very strong finish after having
struggled a bit in the afternoon heat.

Doug and Wilma in a triumphant portrait. Five years ago in Doug's
honor, I invented a "performance index": your age in years multiplied
by your mileage in one day. Doug scored over 12000 back then, on that
212-mile ride. This year, five years older with a 207-mile ride, he
broke his record with a score of over 12800.

9:22:20pm
Brian rides in, a bit weary but triumphant at the end.

9:26:14pm
SteveG hadn't been seen by any of the other cyclists since before
lunch, but, unknown to most, he's still chugging along. His
wife, in occasional phone contact, lets their dog out into the
field behind the Judah gas station, while waiting for his pickup
call.
9:30:40pm
Stan rides in, with his first successful completion in several
attempts. He has learned the lessons Rudy teaches, about keeping
up with high-energy food and drink all day.
9:31:20pm
9:31:48pm
9:34:40pm
Rudy rides in later than usual, having broken his chain about 20
miles back. He had to ride Abraxas' bike the final way.
9:38:54pm
SteveE was right behind Rudy, having been passed just as the final traffic
light was changing! (It's not really a race, though; everybody who can
finish is an enormous winner.)
9:40:14pm
Joe Anderson also prevails. He generally finishes, but he and Doug wilted
last year in the brutal heat. This year was also a struggle, but
he was very careful in his slower pacing and frequent water stops.
